About This Tool
Incorrect CNC feed and speed calculations cause premature endmill breakage, excessive deflection chatter, and melted acrylic edges. This tool calculates surface feet per minute (SFM), chipload per tooth (IPT), and feed rates across 1 to 4 flute carbide cutters.
How to Use
- 1
Select your raw stock material (6061 Aluminum, Hardwood, Softwood, Cast Acrylic, Brass).
- 2
Select your endmill diameter (1/16″ to 1/2″) and number of cutting flutes.
- 3
Choose cutting operation: full slotting vs adaptive light profiling.
- 4
Copy the optimized Spindle RPM, Feed Rate (IPM / mm-min), and Plunge Rate directly into Vectric, Fusion 360, or Carbide Create.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do endmills break in aluminum?
Endmills break primarily from chip re-cutting and friction rubbing. Running too high of an RPM with too slow of a feed rate produces microscopic chips that overheat and weld into the flute gullets.
What is the formula for CNC feed rate?
Feed Rate (IPM) = Spindle RPM × Number of Flutes × Chip Load per Tooth (IPT).
