About This Tool
Eurorack modular synthesizers operate on high voltage levels (-10V to +10V or 0 to 10V), which will destroy sensitive 3.3V microcontrollers (ESP32, Teensy, Raspberry Pi Pico) and ADCs. This tool calculates standard 1% E24 resistor pairs to safely scale modular signals and audibly plays back the 1V/Oct pitch.
How to Use
- 1
Enter your Eurorack input voltage (e.g. 10.0V) and target ADC voltage (e.g. 3.3V).
- 2
Examine the closest standard E24 resistor pair (R1 and R2) with exact resulting voltage and attenuation dB.
- 3
Enter any musical note (e.g. C3, F#4) to view its exact 1V/Oct CV voltage and Hz frequency.
- 4
Click Audition Pitch to hear real-time analog synthesis of the calculated frequency via Web Audio API.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does 1V/Octave pitch scaling work?
In the 1V/Octave standard popularized by Bob Moog, an increase of 1.000 volt raises the synthesizer pitch by exactly 1 octave (12 semitones). Each semitone corresponds to approximately 83.33 mV (1/12th of a volt).
What resistor values are best for Eurorack attenuators?
Total divider impedance should ideally range between 10kΩ and 100kΩ to provide a stable load without overburdening op-amp output stages or causing noise pickup.
