About This Tool
Laser cutters burn away material equal to the beam diameter (kerf). If cutting finger-joint boxes or gears without kerf compensation, parts fit loose and sloppy. This tool expands outside contours and contracts inside holes while auto-welding open vector paths.
How to Use
- 1
Upload your vector SVG file or choose a mechanical preset.
- 2
Set your measured laser beam kerf width (e.g. 0.15mm for 40W CO2).
- 3
Choose offset mode (Full Part, Outer Only, or Holes Only).
- 4
Preview compensated cutting contours and download the welded SVG for LightBurn or Cricut.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is kerf in laser cutting?
Kerf is the thickness of material vaporized by the laser beam as it cuts. A typical 40W–100W CO2 laser produces a kerf between 0.12mm and 0.20mm.
Why does auto-welding prevent laser head stutter?
CAD programs often export lines as separate disconnected segments. When the laser reads open endpoints, it decelerates to zero speed at every junction, causing burned corners. Welding joins segments into continuous high-speed paths.
