How On-Site Material Estimation Works
Accurate contractor material budgeting prevents costly project delays and material return charges. Standard US building practices recommend adding a 10% scrap/waste factor for sheet goods like drywall and flooring to account for perimeter cuts, plumbing penetrations, and layout irregular angles.
Concrete slab volumes are calculated using cubic yards where Yards³ = (Length in feet × Width in feet × (Depth in inches / 12)) / 27. Pre-mixed 60-lb concrete bags yield approximately 0.45 cubic feet each (54 bags per cubic yard).
